KING KONG TANKARD
1976 Tankard by Sculptor Jim Rumph

"And now, ladies and gentlemen, before I tell you any more, I'm going to show you the greatest thing your eyes have ever beheld.
He was a king and a god in the world he knew, but now he comes to civilization merely a captive - a show to gratify your curiosity.
Ladies and gentlemen, look at
Kong, the Eighth Wonder of the World
.
"
- Carl Denham

This rare KING KONG tankard was crafted by California sculptor Jim Rumph in 1976 under his "Mind Circus" label. Here KING KONG warily eyes the rearing snake that forms the handle of this stunning work of art. The tankard is 5 & 1/4 inches wide as seen in this view.

"Oh no, it wasn't the airplanes
...it was Beauty killed the Beast."

- Carl Denham
The back of the tankard bears Carl Denham's final epitaph for KING KONG.
(Other variations of the tankard bear simply the words, "King Kong" an the back.)

This side view shows the great serpent that provides the glossy glazed handle.
The front-to-back dimention shown in this view measures 6 & 3/8 inches.

The side opposite the handle shows KING KONG's elaborate profile detailing.

"You're helpless, Ann, helpless. If you could scream - but you can't!"
- Carl Denham
Inside the tankard, the terrified 3 inch tall figure of Ann Darrow cowers, fearful of discovery.
(Other variations of the KING KONG tankard show Ms. Darrow's dress not entirely concealing her bosom.)
The diameter of the mouth of the tankard measures 3 & 5/8 inches across and has a capacity of 48 fluid ounces - enough to slake even a KING KONG sized thirst.

"Beauty and the Beast, eh?
If beauty gets you... that's the idea of my picture.
The Beast was a tough guy, too. He could lick the world.
But when he saw Beauty, she got him;
he went soft, he forgot his wisdom... and the little guys got him!"

- Carl Denham
The bottom of the KING KONG tankard bears the trademark signature of J. Rumph, and the ornate Mind Circus logo, along with the 1976 copyright. (The small crease on the right edge of the base in this photo is not a chip - the groove is glazed and is not damaged.)
The base of the tankard measures a sturdy 5 & 1/5 inches in diameter.

"He was a king and a god in the world he knew, but now he comes to civilization merely a captive - a show to gratify your curiosity.
Ladies and gentlemen, look at
Kong, the Eighth Wonder of the World
.
"
- Carl Denham
