1958 Audio Tour of
In the Disneyland of 1958, Tomorrowland takes place in the 1960s, the the world is peaceful and united, so Jiminy is taking us to the moon! Now, the "future" is long gone... it's a funny feeling, isn't it?
Tomorrowland

Walt Disney: Now it is time for a preview of the world of tomorrow. We step into the future and find fantastic atomic-powered machines working for us.  The world is unified and peaceful, outer space is the New Frontier.  We walk for a time among the strange mechanical wonders of tomorrow, and then blast off on a Rocket To The Moon.

"Happy Motoring!" waves a freewheeling Walt Disney as he cruises by in an Autopia car. ("Hey, Walt, please keep your hands and arms INSIDE the car at all times,")
Jiminy Cricket:
So, this is The Future.  The day-after-Tomorrowland. And Walt, you weren't kidding about the strange mechanical wonders, were you?  There's a clock that tells time anywhere in the world all at once.

And there's Space Station X-1.   It's a ...spate...a satell...well, it's a thing that flies around the world like a moon.

Up overhead is the Skyway To Fantasyland.

Look out!  There go the AstroJets.  Wow! Look at 'em whirl!

And see those Cars of The Future in Autopia.  But we'd better hurry back over to the rocket, because we're going to the moon!  And this will be the first time a cricket's ever been there!

Loudspeaker: Flight Crew, report aboard Rocket X-1.

Jiminy Cricket: That's us, Kids, come on. Let's hurry over to the rocket.

Loudspeaker: Clear the firing area.

Ground Control: Ground Control to Pilot X-1.  All secured aboard?

Pilot: X-1 to Control. All secured.

Ground Control: Ground Control to X-1. Okay. Start automatic firing timer.

Pilot: X-1 to Control. Timer started. Out.

Loudspeaker: Nine...Eight...Seven...

Jiminy Cricket: What's the matter with him? He's counting backwards!

Loudspeaker: ...Six...Five...

Jiminy Cricket: Uh-oh! Something's gonna happen when he gets to zero!

Loudspeaker: ...Four...Three...Two...One...

Jiminy Cricket: Hold onto your hats, Kids, here we go!

Loudspeaker: ...ZERO!

If you kids ever wanted to hop like a cricket, now is your chance, 'cause nobody has any weight up here!  It's a funny feeling, isn't it?

SFX: <ALARM SIREN>

Jiminy Cricket: What's that siren? What's the matter?

Station One: Station One to X-1. Our instruments indicate Emergency Condition! Verify, repeat, verify! Over.

Jiminy Cricket: What's going on here? Something hit us?

Pilot: X-1 to Station One. At fifty-one hours, twenty-two minutes elapsed flight time, registered hit by small meteor... Puncture... upper bulkhead number two nitric acid tank. Repairs underway.

Jiminy Cricket: I'm glad they got that fixed!

Pilot:  X-1 to Station One.  We are now moving behind the moon.  This will be our last radio message until we come out on the other side.

Station One: (under Jiminy) Roger, X-1.

Jiminy Cricket: Behind the moon? That's no place for a bug!

Pilot: Station One. Station One. We made it!

Station One: Congratulations, X-1, you're the first men to see the other side of the moon!

Station One: Next target...MARS!
Jiminy Cricket: No Mars for us! If you don't mind, Mister Captain, we'd like to go back to Disneyland.
