1958 Audio Tour of
Our next stop on your audio tour of 1958 Disneyland is in Frontierland, where Jiminy takes you on a Covered Wagon ride and down the Rivers of America on the paddlewheel steamer, Mark Twain. Keep an eye out for the Settler's Cabin!
Frontierland

Jiminy Cricket: Come one, Kids! There's Frontierland! Let's hop over and see what's doing. Hah, I see Walt over there, too!

Walt Disney:
Frontierland is a tribute to the faith, courage and ingenuity of the pioneers who blazed the trails across America.
We find ourselves back in the exciting days when the story of our country's past was being lived.
We will ride a covered wagon to a roaring river town, pay a visit to Slew-Foot Sue's Golden Horseshoe, and then catch the paddlewheel steamer Mark Twain for a trip down the Rivers of America.

Big Chief Walt Disney drums up excitement on the banks of Frontierland's Rivers of America.

Jiminy Cricket: Roll yer wagons!
(singing) Westward roll those wagons
Westward them far
Westward roll those wagons
Toward the western star*

Here we are, riding West in an old covered wagon.  It might be a little bumpy at times, but it sure is exciting because there's plenty going on out here in this Painted Desert.

There's stagecoaches, and pack trains, and bubbling mud pots, and teetering rocks, and crazy cactuses and coyotes and even Indians... Yeee- aaah- hoo!
Three that won't be back.
I'm glad we're coming into that old river town Walt was talking about. Let's get out here.

There's the Golden Horseshoe where Slew-Foot Sue and her gals are dancing. Let's go in.

Hey, Sue, you're dancin' up a storm! But we've got to leave you, there's too many other things to see. Goodbye!

Come on, Kids, out into the street again.

<SFX: GUNSHOTS>

Hey, what's going on here? Look out, it's a gunfight! Black Bart and the Sheriff! Bart's going around the corner of the building there, and, and the Sheriff's right behind him! There! He's nabbed him!
Whew! Never a dull moment in Frontierland!

Well, come on, we've got a riverboat to catch. Look at all the people hurrying down to the dock. I hope we make it in time, hoo.

There she comes with her paddlewheel churning, the steamer Mark Twain at the dock. All aboard! Well, we've just got time.

Let's go up on the top deck so we can see everything.  She's moving, she's moving! Here we go on the Rivers of America!

There's some wild animals along the bank. Look, some deer, and a bear, and ducks in the water right in front of the boat. Hey, look out there, Donald, you'll get your tail feathers run over!

On the other side! On the other side! A settler's cabin is on fire! Indians must have done it! I wish we could help...

On top of the hill over there, it's Fort Wilderness.
And there's old Davy Crockett.  He'll take care of those bad-acting Indians!

(singing) His land is biggest, his land is best,
From the grassy plains to the mountain crest,
He's ahead of us all and meetin' the test,
Followin' his legend into the West.
Dav-ey, Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier!
